As a graduate from Concordia University, Seward, my wife and I moved to the Edwardsville, Illinois area to work at a Lutheran High School as the Art Teacher. I was blessed to be able to share and incorporate my faith into my teaching as I contributed to the formation of young adults through our combined artistic efforts. Students were drawn to items that have a purpose they can envision. I was able to watch and nurture the formation and eventual fruition of each vision.
After 11 yrs of teaching, in the midst of the “pandemic”, and as we were expecting another child, I left teaching and began working at a Ford dealership selling cars. This change of pace was something I took on very well. Long hours at the store were fine for me, but not so “fine” for fulfilling the vocations of Husband and Father.
Fall of 2022, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod had an opportunity to employ me in the area of Mission Advancement. This position has enabled me to better serve my family as Father, as I am home much more than either of the previous positions allowed.
As a Lutheran Father of now 9 children, I find myself enjoying the change of pace by getting my hands messy. I enjoy stroking my creative bone as I allow my passion for making functional ware.
The functionality of pottery is something that has always been intriguing. My focus is creating items that people can appreciate and put to good use. I enjoy observing a person touch, hold, explore and examine my piece. My hands formed the clay, building a unique piece and each piece is personal, each piece is an extension of myself. There is no greater satisfaction than when one of my pieces becomes meaningful to the beholder.
I enjoy the challenge of making custom orders, so if you need or want something that I don’t have in the store, please contact me.
